O Amor É Um Ato Revolucionário

It’s been almost 25 years since he released “Aos Vivos”, his first album, and Chico César continues to surprise audiences and critics with each new work. “O Amor É um Ato Revolucionario” is her ninth album of unpublished works, in a trajectory that also includes live albums, DVDs, vinyls and even books, one of them with erotic poems and the other a story for children. After winning the Brazilian Music Award last year as the best pop album with the album “Estado de Poesia – Ao Vivo”, in a moment that brought a visible renewal of his audience, the artist brings “O Amor É um Ato Revolucionario”. The new work is a robust commentary on his political and social experiences, in the turbulent Brazilian moment of recent years. All 13 tracks of “O Amor É um Ato Revolucionario”, lyrics and music, are signed only by Chico César. Recorded between April and June 2019, at Gargolândia (SP), Casa do Mato (RJ), Space Blues (SP) and Etéreo das Recordações de Chita (SP) studios, the album is produced by André Kbelo Sangiacomo and Chico César himself. , who signs the direction with Helinho Medeiros, pianist of his group. Exceptions are the tracks “History” (produced and arranged by Márcio Arantes), “Pedrada” (produced and arranged by Eduardo Bid) and “Eu Quero Quebrar”, which (in addition to reading by Chico and the band) won a bonus version produced by Andre Abujamra. The album brings some guests: the teenager from Paraíba Agnes Nunes (with whom she shares the vocals in “De Peito Aberto”), the young singer-songwriter from Pernambuco Flaira Ferro (in “Cruviana”) and the guitarist from São Paulo Luiz Carlini (in the song “O Amor é a Revolutionary Act”, with a long improvisation in which he even quotes his mythological solo in the first recording of “Ovelha Negra” with Rita Lee and Tutti Frutti). When talking about the album, Chico says: “Many songs were immediately published on social media in voice and guitar format as soon as they were composed, it is their first record”. Close followers will surely recognize songs like “History”, “Pedrada”, “Like”, “Eu Quero Quebrar”. In the show he plays guitars and acoustic guitar, accompanied by Helinho Medeiros (keyboards), Ana Karina Sebastião (bass), Gledson Meira (drums), Simone Sou (percussion), Sintia Piccin (winds), Richard Fermino (winds). In the presentation of the album, journalist Zuza Homem de Mello writes: “Here is now the newest portion of this work, which fulfills the role of popular music: it has the purpose of reflecting its time. It’s not even a stab. It is a stone, a photograph in the smoothness of black and white, the same that Sebastião Salgado prefers for his images in order not to accentuate colors that distract from the intended focus. The songs on this CD by Chico César are concentrated as realistic black-and-white photos of the times we live in, without elements that can abstract the intention of the message. The universality of Chico César’s work occurs in every way, from the rhythmic variety to the thematic approach. It can therefore be said that, without ever denying his origins in Paraíba, he is not a regional singer, but a universal one. His goal is to question”.
